European Structural and Investment Funds updates


Organisations are invited to apply for funding to develop and implement business support programmes for SMEs through Hertfordshire LEP’s European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) allocation. ESIF includes money from the:

European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
European Social Fund (ESF)
European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

Calls open until 14 July 2017

Skills for Growth: Up-skilling the workforce in the health and social care sector in Hertfordshire.
This call seeks applications, which concentrate on up-skilling existing health and social care sector staff in Hertfordshire LEP area. Apply here.

Calls open until 4 August 2017

Learning and Skills: Developing the Leadership and Management skills of SME staff in Hertfordshire. This call seeks applications, which concentrate succession leadership and management training for Small and Medium Enterprises across the Hertfordshire area. Apply here.


Big Lottery

The Big Lottery Fund has published the list of organisations which have got through to stage 2 of its Building Better Opportunities application process for PA 9 - promoting social inclusion and combating poverty. There were a total of 14 applications for the three project specifications in Hertfordshire with a budget of around £5.5m. The chosen organisation and project specifications is: 

Hertfordshire County Council

  • Support unemployed people to find work in areas where there are barriers to employment and furthest away from the labour market, and to secure sustainable employment. 

  • Support young people, particularly those who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET to enter employment, education or training. 

  • Promote financial confidence by supporting people to improve financial management and progress into work. 


Applications for the DWP managed Hertfordshire specification for projects under PA8 – Promoting Employment and Supporting Labour Mobility - with a budget of around £1.8m, has now closed. All bids have now been appraised by the DWP, and the successful applicant - Reed in Partnership - has been chosen. 

Skills Funding Agency

The Skills Support for the Unemployed specification closed on 3 August 2016. The second - Promoting Employment and Supporting Labour Mobility - requires the applicant to deliver enhanced Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) for young people who are NEET in the Hertfordshire LEP area, and is worth £499,000.

The project under PA 10 – Investing in Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning - with a budget of circa £5m has been accepted, and we are currently awaiting details on chosen providers. 

The invitation to tender for ESF specification in Investment Priority 2.2, Improving the Labour Market Relevance of Education & Training Systems, closed on 9 August 2016. The contract started on 26 September 2016 and will end on 31 March 2018.
