Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership welcomes government support for plans for a ‘garden town’ in East Hertfordshire which will bring 10,000 new homes.

The site, Gilston Park Estate, known as ‘Harlow North’, will be developed as part of a wave of garden villages and towns being built across the country. The government has announced £1.4m funding for three new garden towns including Gilston Park Estate.

The development will be a collaboration between East Herts District Council, Epping Forest District Council and Harlow Council.

Housing and Planning Minister Gavin Barwell said: "Locally-led Garden Towns and Villages have enormous potential to deliver the homes that communities need.

"New communities not only deliver homes, they also bring new jobs and facilities and a big boost to local economies. These places combined could provide almost 200,000 homes."

Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow, and Jon Clempner, leader of Harlow Council, have spoken in support of Gilston Park Estate, a proposal put forward by housing association Places For People.
