COVID-19 advice and support

Support for businesses to re-open and trade safely

The Better Business for All (BBfA) partnership has produced a toolkit of resources to help businesses trade safely and comply with the law.

These documents will be regularly updated in line with the latest Government guidelines. Please check back often to ensure you are following the latest version. Some of the guidance may not apply to you directly but can be adapted to suit your business.

You must conduct a COVID-19 risk assessment specific to your business, communicate your findings to your staff and ensure it is kept up to date. If you have five or more employees you must also ensure it is written down.

Face coverings: advice for businesses

In Response to the new COVID-19 Variant, Omicron new restrictions came into place on the 30 November 2021 including that face covering must be worn in shops and other locations where goods or services are sold or provided. This includes but isn’t limited to enclosed shopping centres, beauty treatment locations, post office, pharmacies and retail galleries.

Staff do not have to wear face coverings unless they are likely to come into close contact with members of the public. For example waiting staff do need to wear face coverings but warehouse probably do not.

The new rules require businesses in places where wearing a face covering is mandatory to display notices on their premises giving information about that requirement. This can be done by displaying a poster like the one available here: Face coverings poster: 30 November 2021 (publishing.service.gov.uk) which explains that face covering are required unless an exemption applies.

Further advice is available here: Face coverings: when to wear one, exemptions, and how to make your own - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Advice applies to England only.
