Last year, in just one quarter, 77 businesses in London and the South East fell foul of the rules and were issued a financial penalty which varied from £5,000 to £105,000.

Better Business for All is Hertfordshire regulators’ way of reducing the burdens on business. It aims to support growth by building stronger relationships between businesses, local regulators and other interested parties.
John Boulter, Chair of the multi-agency Hertfordshire Partnership, said “We know that businesses in Hertfordshire do their best to employ staff legally but are told by business representatives that employers often find the requirements confusing and are unsure of what they need to do to comply. We hope this simple guidance will help our businesses stay protected and avoid a fine or prosecution.”
