2018 is shaping up to be a hugely exciting year for LEPs as we have been tasked with developing Local Industrial Strategies to help us identify local strengths and challenges, as well as future opportunities.

In Hertfordshire, we have the potential to be a trailblazer for early delivery of a Local Industrial Strategy as our Strategic Economic Plan is closely aligned to the Government’s five foundations of productivity.

As part of a widespread engagement process we have formed a new commission which will be chaired by my predecessor John Gourd and supported by a select group of business leaders, innovators and academics.

The commission will gather evidence under the four over-arching themes set out in the Government’s White Paper: Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Clean Energy, Shaping Future Mobility and Innovation for an Ageing Society. Panels will be set up, each one each chaired by a ‘champion’ drawn from the private sector to take the Grand Challenges forward.

On 29 March, we will kick-start our business engagement process and introduce our champions at our Annual Conference at the University of Hertfordshire. This has been timed to coincide with the official launch of the Hertfordshire Science Partnership; an innovative collaboration between the LEP and the University to boost Hertfordshire’s dynamic life sciences sector. This is an opportunity to showcase some of the cutting-edge research and development already taking place in Hertfordshire.

Please join us and help develop a Local Industrial Strategy for Hertfordshire.
