The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have launched three new calls for projects, with funding available from the European Social Fund.  Organisations are invited to submit their proposals for projects that deliver:

Skills Support for the Unemployed

Ensuring our workforce has the right skills to encourage future economic growth is a crucial part of Hertfordshire LEP’s Strategic Economic Plan. This project should help unemployed and economically inactive people in Hertfordshire address skills related barriers and progress into sustainable employment. As the economy continues to recover, there is a risk that those not in work may lack the skills employers require. The project must therefore also provide individuals with the vocational skills they need to compete in the local labour market.

The contract will be for the value of £908,339 based on delivery of outcomes. The contract start date is 1 April 2019 and delivery will commence immediately. The final date for participant starts is 31 December 2020 and all activity must be completed by 31 July 2021.

Community Grants

Approximately 35,000 individuals in Hertfordshire claim Employment Support Allowance (ESA) or related (non-Job Seeker Allowance) benefits. This project should help reduce the county's high economic inactivity rate by providing additional and/or more intensive and flexible support tailored to the needs of those most disadvantaged and furthest from the labour market.

These individuals are likely to need focussed and targeted support, perhaps over a longer period, to help them into work. The programme must support priority groups including those over 50, the disabled, ethnic minorities, and women.

The contract will be for the value of £216,000 based on delivery of outcomes. The contract start date is 1 April 2019 and delivery will commence immediately. The final date for participant starts is 31 December 2020 and all activity must be completed by 31 July 2021.

Skills Support in the Workplace

Hertfordshire has a growing productivity concern, with the county's productivity rate below peer economies in the south of England. It seems likely that the supply of qualified workers is behind this trend, however an additional factor may be that Hertfordshire’s employers are less likely to train their staff than other leading local economies.

This project must support employers to fill skills gaps in the workplace by developing their employees, particularly in SMEs and micro businesses. It should help increase the number of people with technical and job-specific skills to progress them into education, employment and apprenticeships to support business growth, and help employers address the gender employment and wage gap by increasing the skills level of employed women.

The contract will be for the value of £4,419,918 based on delivery of outcomes. The contract start date is 1 April 2019 and delivery will commence immediately. The final date for participant starts is 31 December 2020 and all activity must be completed by 31 July 2021.
