The Enterprise Adviser Network is a group of business leaders and schools working together towards the mutual aims of more effective engagement between schools and employers and the improvement of careers guidance strategies. Enterprise Advisers - typically in senior leadership roles in the immediate business community - volunteer to act as mentors to a local school or college and help develop strategies to prepare young people for the future. For employers, it allows them to join a network committed to resolving skills issues and help shape the future workforce to meet their needs.
The Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership is delivering The Careers & Enterprise Company which aims towards improving school-employer relations and schools' careers guidance. It is very pleased with the progress being made by the Programme so far; it is continuing to grow and now has 84 schools and 63 businesses signed up across the county. Part of its success has been the calibre of Enterprise Advisers coming forward from a range of SMEs and major corporates.
A highly successful Enterprise Adviser Network Breakfast took place on 22 November at PayPoint in Welwyn Garden City, giving an opportunity to new and more established members of the Network to share their experiences, ideas and best practice in the presence of the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Patricia Mabbott. Further local networking events are taking place over the next couple of months to accelerate this trend.
Katy Wilde, HR Director of PayPoint, said: “PayPoint is delighted to be part of the Enterprise Advisor Network and to have hosted this networking event. Developing young talent is a core element of our people strategy and as a local employer we are excited to be partnering with Stanborough School to help their students prepare for the world of work.”
Due to the successes of the Programme to date The Careers & Enterprise Company is expanding the Enterprise Advisor Network, particularly for schools catering for special educational needs. It welcomes enquiries from interested organisations. To find out how you can get involved please contact Daniel Gendle, Senior Enterprise Co-ordinator.
