European Structural and Investment Funds

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) opened the first round of calls for the new European Structural and Investment Funds, which includes the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

The ERDF programme is managed by DCLG, the ESF programme by Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the EAFRD programme by Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and this is reflected in the calls for projects.

The LEP is keen to work with stakeholders and partners to develop proposals so that these funds can be used with maximum impact in Hertfordshire.

ERDF Stakeholder Conference

We are holding an ERDF Stakeholder Conference on 30 June to inform potential delivery partners of the processes, timescales and priorities for bringing forward business support programmes to support SMEs in Hertfordshire. Email for more information and to register your interest.

Our EU priorities

The calls/specifications are broken down by EU thematic priority as well as LEP area priorities.  For Hertfordshire the position is as follows;

ERDF – A first call for projects under priority theme (1) Research, Technological development and Innovation and priority theme (3) Enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs. This has now closed.

A further call will be made for more projects under themes 1 and 3 as well as theme (4) Supporting the shift towards a low carbon economy, in the period June to September 2015.

ESF – Although the programme launch has taken place the first tranche of calls/specifications will be released by our chosen opt-in organisations. These are Skills Funding Agency, DWP and Big Lottery Fund and this will hopefully happen in late May or early June 2015. The 'opt-in' model provides a mechanism to work with national delivery organisations to match their funding with our local ESF allocations to provide fully funded provision or for co-financing.

EAFRD – Although the programme launch has taken place we are not expecting to release our first call until this summer.
