Herts for Learning, the UK’s largest Schools’ company - with 520 shareholder schools and direct access to more than 70 Secondary Schools in Hertfordshire – will be hosting a ‘Skills and Apprenticeship Show’ on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November 2016 at Hertfordshire Development Centre, Stevenage.
Recruitment across all sectors is challenging, and targeting young people is key to ensuring a sustainable workforce for the area’s future growth and prosperity. Employers report there is continuing pressure to fill new jobs, replace those who retire and compete against external demand from neighbouring areas and other regions.
Feedback from local employers shows that a high percentage of vacancies remain hard to fill with professional jobs often being the most difficult recruitment challenge. The launch of Degree Apprenticeships in September 2015 and the Government’s plans to introduce an Apprenticeship Levy in April 2017 aim to address these challenges and are driving forces behind the Skills and Apprenticeship Show.
The Skills and Apprenticeship Show aims to inform and support young people in:
• meeting local and national employers
• making more informed decisions about their next stage of education and/or employment
• finding out more about the world of work and the broad range of opportunities available in Hertfordshire and beyond
Why should employers exhibit at The Skills and Apprenticeship Show?
The Skills and Apprenticeship Show will provide employers with the opportunity to:
• directly engage with young people in Hertfordshire considering pathways from education to employment
• discuss possible career pathways, Apprenticeships and other employment and skill development opportunities
• showcase the range of career opportunities available in the sector
By attending the event you will also have direct access to key influencers, such as schools, parents and guardians - as well as the young people attending.
In addition to business exhibitions, a range of workshops will be running throughout both days for attendees. Advice surgeries will also be running to support and answer queries from individuals regarding their possible career and training pathways.
The event will be supported by a full advertising campaign, with School groups booking time slots for the Friday event and potential attendees pre-registering their attendance for the Saturday event.
