The Local Industrial Strategy (LIS) for Hertfordshire presents one of the greatest opportunities to shape the county’s future economic pathway, setting out a roadmap for future growth and improved productivity. The draft strategy was published by Hertfordshire LEP on 9 September, and made available for public consultation until 14 October 2019. During this period, stakeholders were invited to comment on the strategy to ensure it addresses the area's needs and drives inclusive growth.
26 responses were received in total from across a range of sectors including public, private, voluntary and local authority, from across and beyond Hertfordshire.
Respondents included: Arts Council England, Better Business for All, Broxbourne Borough Council, Dacorum Borough Council, East Hertfordshire District Council, Enterprise Hertfordshire, Environment Agency, Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce, Hertfordshire Community Foundation, Hertfordshire Growth Board, Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, Hyperlocal Cities, Innovate UK, Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, London Stansted Cambridge Consortium, Nemco Limited, North Herts District Council, Ocado, Sales Masters Guild, St Albans City and District Council, Stevenage Borough Council, The Crown Estate, Visit Herts, Watford Borough Council, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, and Wenta.
Feedback on the consultation draft was largely positive, with respondents welcoming the opportunity to take part in the process of moving the Local Industrial Strategy forward. Comments were gathered in response to the overarching priorities, growth scenarios and strategic themes identified for Hertfordshire, as well as on opportunities for further consultation, the deliverability of the LIS’s strategic aims, and specific concerns outside the scope of the LIS.
The feedback received will help shape the final Local Industrial Strategy, which will then go through a co-design process with Government before final publication in early 2020. We are continuing to engage with stakeholders through business roundtables, with the next one set to take place in Letchworth Garden City.
